If you have noticed any of the following issues with your embroidery machine, it is highly likely that your machine's timing is off or that its rotary hook requires maintenance:
1. The machine is not stitching at all.
2. The machine is missing stitches (this could also be a result of the needle depth being incorrect).
3. The needle breaks every time you attempt to stitch.
4. The thread keeps shredding (this could also be due to a faulty needle).
The appropriate timing for most commercial embroidery machines is between 200 and 202. We strongly advise that every embroidery machine operator learns about timing as it is one of the most common repairs required for any embroidery machine.
To check the timing of your machine, follow these steps:
1. Remove the needle plate.
2. Manually lower the needle until the main shaft is at 200.
3. Check the distance between the needle and the rotary hook.
It is essential to note that the rotary hook must be oiled every four hours of use and cleaned every day. If you have not oiled your rotary hook, we strongly recommend cleaning it using a compressed air can and oiling it to see if your machine's stitching improves.
This picture shows how timing should look from the front of the machine at 200-202 main shaft degree.
