EC20 Error, this error means different things.
1. Main Shaft Jam: If you are unable to rotate the main shaft black knob fully, your machine's computer may display an EC20 Error. This occurs when the main motor senses an obstruction preventing the main shaft from moving. If this happens, please check the rotatory hook for any obstructions. This issue may occur due to lack of maintenance of the main shaft (lubrication), lack of maintenance of the rotary hook (cleaning and lubrication), or when a needle breaks and its tip gets stuck inside the rotary hook, causing it to jam and preventing the main shaft from turning freely.
2. Stop Position Sensor: The embroidery machine stops at 100 degrees, which is the home position of the main shaft and allows for color changes and other functions. The stop position sensor ensures the machine stops at the correct position by reading a metal disc with a notch using a sensor with 2 magnets. Failure of this sensor can result from excessive oiling of the rear main shaft hole, causing oil to spread to the sensor or accumulation of dust on the magnets. To test if the sensor is causing the EC20 error, manually turn the shaft to 100 degrees, and if the machine stops after a few cycles and displays the EC20 error, the sensor may need replacement.
3. Main Motor Failure: If the main motor fails to turn the main shaft, the EC20 error will appear on the screen. The life expectancy of these motors is typically 5-7 years, depending on usage. To check for main motor failure, manually turn the shaft to 100 degrees and observe the machine's response. If the machine makes clicking noises without moving the main shaft, or if a red light is on in the drive box, it is likely that the main motor needs to be replaced.
